Let me tell you how I first came across hypnobirthing, and why I can’t wait to share it with as many expectant mums (and dads) as possible!

When I became pregnant with my son, Oliver, I was scared. Not about the prospect of labour or giving birth to my baby – but of the seemingly endless stream of terrifying sounding things that might accompany it. Stories from friends, family and just about anyone who knew I was pregnant would contain details such as forceps, epidurals and caesarian sections.

And I wondered, surely nature did not intend it to be this way?

In my job as a Veterinary Nurse, I had learned about and witnessed the wonderful way in which animals calmly give birth, and instinctively know just what to do. In fact, I had been taught to leave them well alone as much as possible!

I began to think, surely we aren't much different to them? After all, we are mammals!

My search for natural birth led me to discover hypnobirthing, and being a science and fact-loving kind of person, I was surprised by how much it just made sense!

And now here I am! I believe that it is every pregnant woman's right to have the best birth experience that she can, and I am excited to be able to help you on this incredible journey.

My Birth Story

After all my preparation I felt confident, positive and was looking forward to my labour and birth!

At 38 weeks, at a routine appointment, it was detected that I had pre-eclampsia. I felt healthy and had been full of the energy of 'nesting', so this was a huge surprise to me! I was recommended to have an induction the next day. I was disappointed that I wasn't going to experience spontaneous labour, but I had informed myself of all the possibilities, so still felt prepared and in control.

It turned out that my son was well on the way to making an appearance by himself anyway, so my labour started without too much encouragement! Using the techniques that I had been practising and having my supportive husband by my side, I stunned the midwives after just a few short hours by announcing that my baby was coming - whilst still on the prenatal ward! After ten minutes in the delivery suite, my beautiful baby was in my arms.

Afterwards, the euphoria I felt was indescribable. Not only did I have my perfect baby boy, but I felt like I could move mountains! And that ladies, is how I would love each and every one of you to feel too.
